Lessons From the Win of Davis Hillary Ntare

The day that had been awaited for finally came. The moment of truth had sunk in. And when the envelope, verified to bear correct content by PriceWaterHouseCoopers, was finally opened we had a new winner for Tusker Project Fame 4: Davis Hillary Ntare!
Well, Msechu, Steve and Amileena, in that order, followed him.
I have never been gripped by such excitement, tears spurting from the eyes of a young man, head and arms thrown in moment of pure ectasy. When Davis prostrated himself on the podium to thank God for his divine help, my eyes were also brimming with tears of joy.
Upon being asked for his comments after the win, Davis first thanked God, the Faculty, the Judges and the fans. In between sobs, he said: “Only God knows how much I love music”. That is a loaded statement. For starters, Davis tried TPF3 last year but was eliminated. He never gave up.
Here was a talented singer, versatile dancer (evidenced by Michael Jackson’s Billy Jeans), a humble man, a respectful personality and one who loved doing what he did. I visited his official Facebook Fanpage and these are the running thread in the congratulatory messages he is given. I remember the phrase he loved to use: “This is not a competition, we are here to have fun”.
With such hallmarks, Davis carried the day. In him I saw somebody who loved doing what he does. In him was a gentle dove who did not allow his talent get into his head.
I can hear him saying again: “Lorot Son of the Hills, life is not a competition, we are here to have fun!”
