How I Escaped Death by A Whisker: Reflection

1.       God is great. We were not just lucky that night. We could have died just like other Kenyans. By surviving that ordeal, I think the message God is sending is that he is All-Powerful and that He wants the world to know this (which is mainly why I had to write this).

2.       Unity in grief. While boarding the Nissan, we were absolute strangers to each other. But upon getting back our lives, quite literally, it was as if we knew each other for a very long time.

3.       Your safety is important. If you are stuck in town at night make a point of boarding a bus. If that fails, spend 1000 shillings or more on a taxi and arrive safely than spend 70 shillings and lose the money and your life.

4.       Be kind to your Carjackers. Even if you are stoop so low as to appear a dimwit, do so. It appears like a challenge when you pass off as a Mr-know-it-all.

5.       Protect your nose and face. Don’t look at your Carjackers directly into their eyes. They will take it as ‘mastering’ their faces for police identification.

6.       Don’t carry a lot of cash. As much as I emphathize with our man who lost 150,000, the question that remains is: In Nairobi? At night? Carrying that much of money?

7.       Life is so temporary, transient. With just a bullet, we would have been dispatched to our Maker. Just a bullet.

8.       These things happen. I used to think Carjacking happened to others till it happened to me. Try as much as possible to exercise caution. Personally, I will board a Nissan at Railways past 10 especially on a weekend. It is better I sleep standing near a Traffic Light than to attempt this.
